Back with a Vengeance
The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to believe that the almost-Imperial Star Destroyers seen at the end of Episode III were Republic class Star Destroyers. Before I go on, any thoughts on this?

I was under the impression that the Republic-class came out after the Imperator II, and was commissioned by the New Republic.

Where did I go right?
I thought the ones earlier on in the film were the Republic Class, and the ones at the ned were the first of the Imperials

I'm thinking the ones at the beginning were the Victory class, or a closely related relative. A few points to that:

They are atmospheric capable.
They have lots of turbolaser and missile launchers, although they aren't as powerful as the heavy ones on the Imperial.
They have a small starfighter capacity, close to two squadrons.
They carry Juggernaught Assault Vehicles (those 5 axled monsters deployed to Kashyyyk).

I don't think the New Republic every deployed a Republic-class, I'm pretty sure the Republic SD is a prototype in essence for an ISD, which it does pretty closely resemble an ISD.

Try again, Kraken. The Republic Assault Ship and The Republic Attack Cruiser, respectably.

The article coins it a "Star Destroyer", but I have my doubts that it was ever offically called that, given the nature of the Republic. The Republic Star Destroyers were made after ESB for sure, and are EU only.

Yeah. The Republic Class SD was first named in the Black Fleet Crisis, IIRC.

Huh? No the Republic Assault Ship was only at the end of Episode II. I'm talking about the end of Episode III. As for the Republic class Star Destroyer, well, maybe there are two versions. One for each Galatic Republic.

There are also two Republic Cruisers. What the Jedi use in Episode I, and what the New Republic/Galatic Federation uses in Destiny's Way and beyond in the NJO. The latter seems to be a dreadnought sized cruiser that is both easily and quickly built, and is highly automated.

Sith Demon
In the Episode III, the Star Destroyer is the Venator guys according to my EpIII Incredible Cross sections where they are much more fighters than Imperial Star Destroyers or the Executor SSD. Venators can hold 400 fighters.
