fuck that duck
Shamelessly ripping off Vega's music thread, here we find some of the best movies of 2004.

Some movies of note this year:

Spider-man 2
The Passion of the Christ
Farenheit 9/11

(Like I need mention those three, right?)

Anyway, my favourite movies of this year, seperated by genre.

Comedy:
The Girl Next Door
Starring: Elisha Cuthbert & Emile Hirsch

It's low-brow humour and a cliche love story, yes. But I loved it. Like American Pie, it's memorable (American Pie 2 & 3 were, by contrast, forgettable). Shaun of the Dead ran a close second, though.

Drama:
Garden State
Starring: Zack Braff & Natalie Portman

Okay, so I just saw this recently, but I have to say it was the first good movie I've seen in a long time. There are lots of entertaining movies, but this one is just... good.

Action/Adventure:
Spider-man 2
Starring: Tobey Toby Maguire & Kirsten Dunst

Not so much that it's a good movie, but in that it managed to imrpove over the original so well. It seems to be the year of it, but sequels are so seldom as good, nevermind better, than the first that this is worthy of a mention.

Science Fiction
The Butterfly Effect
Starring: Kelso

I don't recall if this was 2004 or 2003... but all around, a good movie. Sure, seeing Ashton try to be serious is a laugh, but he pulled it off better than I expected. Not by any means an awesome film, but a decent one, and it showed us another side of Ashton Kutcher and that he was trying to break out of his typecasting... even if he did start shooting for a new season of Punk'd! soon after.

Fantasy
Shrek 2
Starring: Mike Mysers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy

Another sequel that surpassed the original! This movie is downright hilarious. Nuff said.

Documentary
Supersize Me
Starring:

You probably expected me to say Farenheit 9/11. But I was somewhat disapointed with that one - seemed entirely to rushed and too biased. Commentary is good, but some ground has to be given to the other side, neh?

Anyway - Supersize Me is fucking gross. A great movie if only in what it uncovers. The "Mcdonald's targets kids" message rings very true, because today at work I came face to face with "Barbie Serves You McDonalds" toys...

Not surpising, given what the doll represents though, though.
[size=1]"So the woman asked me what I wanted on the sandwich and I said I do not care it is for a duck, and she was like oh then it's free. I was not aware that ducks eat for free at Subway. It's like give me a chicken fajita sub, but don't worry about ringing it up, it is for a duck.”

Back with a Vengeance
I'm trying to remember if any good war movies came out this year. I think I remember one about fighting in Europe during WW2, although I never went to see it.

friend of the sleeping pill
I saw Life Acquatic last night and it was really, truly entertaining. I just thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie.

The Emperor<br> Almighty Bastard
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was pretty good. And I got a kick out of Napoleon Dynamite.
