I got a copy of this CD last week. Typically, when I listen to a CD, I'll just rip it to my computer, and then play it through multiple times, so I get a feeling of what I like. Then I play those songs, and read the lyrics.

OK Computer has three songs that I like the sound of.
- Airbag, because of the interesting rhythm guitar in the beginning.
- Paranoid Android, because it’s a very musical song, with a lot of musical depth.
- And Electioneering, because of that cool rhythm guitar hook.

Three out of twelve isn't too bad, I guess. Usually I shine to the rest of the CD later, after listening a lot.

The CD sleeve has some interesting attempts at intellectual art, I guess. But the haphazard pseudo cool bad spelling, bad punctuation, and incredibly poor formatting makes it difficult to read without laughing at the "we're too cool to type this up so it could be read and understood" attitude.

The lyrics themselves are odd. Sometimes I think they're trying to be deep and profound, but unfortunately they are often far too vague to mean anything -- just stabs in the dark by someone hoping to hit a chord with the audience. Maybe I'm not up on brit politics though, and don't know about the events that inspired these lyrics.

The CD sleeve also lacked an essential - pictures of the band. Boo...

At this point, OK Computer is paring up with Coldplay's Parachutes. Two or three songs on the CD might make it to my regular playlists, but I'm pretty disappointed with the rest of the album.

"No Suprises" is my favorite track on this particular Radiohead album, followed closely by "Subterranean Homesick Alien". Then again, there isn't really a song on the album I don't like, but it's still not got a patch on 'Hail To The Thief' - the best Radiohead album, IMO.

Creating Artless Garbage: A Mini-Course

(1) Ignore sonic experimentation and songwriting. These things are not important and are favored largely by bands of the "homosexualist" persuasion.

(2) Spell everything perfectly in your lyrics booklet. The lyrics booklet is very important to the CD.

(3) Don't make your cover anything too "abstract" or "different"; make sure it's something recognizable. You don't want people who can't make the connection to call you "gay" or "a faggot".

(4) Likewise, make sure all of your lyrics are all straightforward references that can be understood on the first listen. Anything too bizarre or poetic could land you the label of "fag".

(5) Your music is judged entirely based on the rhythm guitar, even when your sound is the product of a three-guitar mesh of texture.

(6) $$$.

(7) Fuck up good artwork by including pictures of yourselves from within. Remember, an album isn't art. People want to see marketable, sexy pictures of the band members posing in all the latest gucci attire. Or at least sitting in the studio looking "deep" with that "Hmm maybe we should add more phaser to guitar track 3" look on their face.

(8) Finally, remember that music is not art. Nobody cares about your thoughts or opinions, because your thoughts and opinions are all wrong you liberal scumbag doofus. Music is about making money. Most people won't get what your record is about anyway, they just want to hear songs about true love and Jesus and Dick Cheney and shit.
