Is now a Category 5 Hurricane, with wind speeds up to 160 mph sustained, and 200 mph gusts. The storm is preparing to crash ashore Jamacia, Cayman Islands, and Cuba. The storm is predicted to take the same path as Charley. Just some pics. First one is visible, second infrared, and third water vapour. and the fourth one is the forecast track. Right over our freaking house almost.

Well, Florida has been getting lucky for the past several years in terms of hurricanes, so I am thinking Mother Nature said 'ok, enough being nice' and decided to slam them big time this year. So far...she's succeeding.
I'm glad I am no longer stationed in that state...though I wonder if the base I was at there will survive *tis only three feet above sea level*

Maybe a deathwish, but come on! I think it would be a thrill to experience a hurricane firsthand.... from a safe location. Go out, take some video, play in the wind.... oops here comes a flying billboard! and run back into safety.

I know what you mean OS. I have the same daredevil desire. Ivan has weakened some, but is still a Category 4 Hurricane.

Hurricanes, on the norm, aren't that bad unless your right on the coast where it comes in. Then your talking some serious crap... but after about 50 miles inland, things calm down. Andrew went right over top of my hometown and basically broke out some limbs in a few trees, but where it came inland, Homestead, was completely gone.
The hurricanes aren't very scary if your far enough inland and not in a flood plain. Now the damn tornados they spawn suck ass.... Last bad hurricane I remember in my home town, we had six of the bastards whirling around my neighborhood. You wanna to talk about hearing a roaring in your head....
