Man of Ambition
So, I've been noticing how writing has been going here and something came to mind I figure I'd voice with a hopefully quasi-serious answer. Are my takeover threads being frivolous? Should I just be writing on in a single thread and keep expanding it?

Sorry just an anxiety I suppose as I see what others post while I'm running around playing Space Napoleon with Hutt Space and my new government scheme.

That aside I'm kinda curious on thoughts about it. Admittedly I've obviously enjoyed writing it thus far but input is something I like to get now and again.

You should do exactly what you want to do, whatever that is.

Happy New Year.

Yeah, pretty much. I mean what are you asking? Are you asking if you should bother taking planets?

I suppose that is one way to put it, Ahnk.

I'm legitimately not understanding your question. What about the way people have been writing suggests to you that you taking planets is a bad idea?

Have you been reading Smart's writing? Dude takes two planets an afternoon.

I believe he is asking whether or not he should be starting a new thread for each planet he takes, instead of expanding on a single thread and just adding planets every time he meets the requirement and takes them within the story.

To answer your question, its honestly completely a matter of personal preference. Whatever feels right to you. I would say that if you feel as if you're telling an overarching story and that breaking it up into different threads is too jarring or breaks the flow of your writing, feel free to contain it in a singular thread. If you feel like each takeover is a self-contained story and have no problem starting anew each time, post a new thread. Its really your choice. Check the battlegrounds history, you'll see Smarts is absolutely addicted to new threads. I assume he gets high off of the experience of making each new post.

As far as Ahnk's dumb stupid wrong interpretation of your question, or whether or not "taking planets" matters anymore. I suppose that depends on your point of view. Its definitely become a lot more subjective over the years, but I suppose at the end of the day "might makes right", so better safe than sorry. They definitely lend you credibility.

I reiterate; you should do exactly what you want to do.

Even if that means wearing nothing but underpants all day.

Is dead. Would rather not be.
For the record: I was once told not to do multi-planet takeover threads, and I haven't done it since.

If that's no longer an issue, then I will adapt my writing practices accordingly (because personally I'd like to keep my interconnected plots, connected . . . inter. . . ly?)

And Ahnk, I haven't taken a planet since blowing up the Vahaba system. That was, like, five weeks ago!

Yeah, well... if we remember correctly, Smarts that was because you were posting multiple take-over threads with multiple planets. I think you spanned something like a dozen or more active PTO's at once. You earned your stripes with that. In fact, the rule exists almost exclusively because of you.

Of course, times and people change.

Just look at me.

(BTW, I do whatever I feel like, whenever I want... and that seems to work out just fine.)

The issue then becomes, if you start a multiplanet takeover thread (listing the planets in the subject line or in the beginning of the rp), you will expect those planets to suddenly be "held" or "exempt from takeover by others" until you complete your thread. But what if the thread is never completed? Or if you have enough words for just two planets in your five-planet takeover thread?

What will happen (or what could happen) is that someone starts four threads of five planet takeovers with a general first post and then presumes that those planets are untouchable by others while they leisurely complete the threads without interference.

So, can it be done? Sure.

But if someone else puts up a takeover thread of their own listing a world you also had listed in a multiplanet takeover thread and finishes it before you do yours, then they should get the world in my opinion.

That's why it is recommended to stick with on planet per thread since it seems to take a person a few months to finish one thread for one planet let alone one thread for ten planets.
