Sometimes, you just get lucky.
I'm trying to wrap up my existing Alliance plots so I can get started on post-Cataclysm stuff, and I was wondering to whom I should direct my queries regarding the state of the New Republic.

Omnae, should I talk to you, Seth, should I talk to you, or is there any other relevant member of the community present that I could talk to about the objectives and ideologies of the faction currently identified (in the Planets List) as "The Republic"?
Depending upon the current intentions and beliefs of "The Republic," the current incarnation of "The Alliance to Restore the Republic" will have to be modified in some way.
(I'm going to start using bigger words now, Beff, so please look away)
However, such modification at this time would be premature, as I am not currently aware of the intentions of this "new" group, the former Commonwealth.
Calling yourself the "New Republic" and actually being the current incarnation of the Galactic Republic are not necessary and sufficient conditions of one another. (Similarly, calling yourself "The Alliance to Restore the Republic" and actually existing for the purpose of restoring the Galactic Republic are not necessary and sufficient conditions of one another.)
