Its been a long time, but I still think about you from time to time. I both closer and farther from you than I've ever felt in my life. Is it okay for me to treat you like a memory, when I know you're still alive and breathing and waiting for me to make you a continuing experience? Will things ever be truly the same between us, or will I forever be stuck in the past, thinking constantly of the "good old days" and not realizing that I'm wasting away new good old days that I won't recognize until they're long gone?
I've been doing good, and I really hope you can say the same. I've gotten my life back on track, and I'm proud to say that I've improved as a person since we last spoke. I think I'm really getting the hang of this whole life thing. How have you been? Are things going the way you expected them to? Is this what you thought today would look like?
There will come a time when the version of you on this day will look stupid. It is not your fault. Don't look back on the times that we had with regret, or longing. Instead, hold in your heart only fondness. Fondness coupled with the understanding that the past is the past, and there is never truly any "going back to the way things were." The way things were are just that...the way things were. Please understand that things can only ever be the way things are, and...what I'm really trying to say is that the way things are just doesn't work between us.
I'm going now. I hope you find all of the happiness you always wanted. I'll think of you, TRF. I'll remember you. Don't forget me.
