in the depths of r'lyeh
IQ Rating: 200
She's smarterer than everyone!
Irtar recommended that I play Diablo II a while back, and after getting it (and promptly having my s/o kidnap it from within my feeble grasp and refuse to let me play my character until he'd finished the game with his), I have to admit I was pretty impressed. Can any of the video gaming nerds among you suggest anything similar for me to try out next ? Keep in mind that my laptop and his PC are capable of handling only ... well, Diablo II, since I haven't found anything else our systems can support so far.

Apart from that, a friend of mine requested for me to get some military-esq PC games for him, to do with real wars and combat and all that jazz. Any recommendations there as well ?

If it could handle Diablo II, then it should support at least some of the games in the Command and Conquer First Decade pack, those are RTS military games that are a lot of fun to play. Axis and Allies is another game I would recommend. I would also recommend Counter-Strike Source, which your computer should also be able to support (although you would have to download Steam onto your computer. Ecch).

Is he after first-person shooters, or strategy? In the former, the Call of Duty series is excellent (although I think CoD3 was a console release only :(). The Rainbox Six games are also good, but a lot more 'subtle' than CoD. Strategy games: Command and Conquer remains the king of the hill, imo. Red Alert II and Tiberian sun are older, but still a lot of fun. Generals and Tiberian Harvest (?) are the newer releases, haven't played them, though.

I've played Generals, and it's a lot of fun, espically with the expansion added. Tiberian Harvest, I assume that's what they call C&C3? I've played it, it's so-so. It's like a realism C&C version of Starcraft, and I am totally not joking on that.

The best Diablo II clone is Titan Quest. I really like it :)

Hellgate London is similar, even graphics wise which is surprising - needless to say it doesn't look very good, heh. I wouldn't bother with it, personally, and this is coming from someone who bought the game for $100 and has played it a whopping twice; it's a waste of money, and because of the online nature (requiring an account and such) you can't return it.

But, if you want a clone, with some multiplayer, go for it - just don't say I didn't warn you.
