Banned
This is probably the most ironic post I've ever made.

I've decided to resign my commission at The Rebel Faction. Perminently. I know, it's strange coming out of someone that is technically banned from the site but it is a decision I have decided to make on my own. TRF is, in my opinion, a shadow of it's former self. It used to be a wonderful community to roleplay in, complete with a supportive staff and helpful community.

Now, the good times as they were seem to be gone. Very few people actually roleplay anymore, above all others the staff. The community is rude and at times cruel toward new roleplayers, and the lack of staff enforcement of their own rules continues to disgust me. TRF has become a double-standard. Kiss the staff's ass, and you'll get away with anything you like.

I've followed the rules. I've roleplayed. I've attempted to get people involved and roleplaying, and I've been ignored. I used to think it was entertaining to play at a site where the staff broke their own rules. Now that I'm older, I find it a bit childish and arogant.

TRF runs newbies out the door faster than they can post, and they continue to have veterans leave daily. I think we all know what is inevitably going to happen now, or three years from now. The constant abuse by the staff not only sadens me, but it destroys what could be a wonderful community. I came back to TRF because I enjoyed roleplaying here. Now, I don't see much point.

Feel free to write my characters out of any storylines that they are involved in. If, that is, you can find time to actually roleplay.

I too have taken notice of several of these issues which have been very disappointing.

What happened for being responsible for your own actions?

So much hazing and ridiculous comments are made in the endless OOC threads that spread like litter. We are drilled to play responsibly in character yet nobody here ensures the same for our OOC threads. Look at the comment above, why bother and waste your time Circe? Post something in the Battlegrounds and give us something great to read.

Speaking of the Battlegrounds, what happened to it? Lack of activity is killing it, that’s what. You might as well change TRF into a general chat board since that is where all the activity is driven.

TRF has become such a restrictive and negative atmospehere that perhaps it's time to look at a regime change to place those in charge who will try to get things back on track. That is for the general public here to decide and perhaps there are those on the staff who have remained quiet, not wanting to say this in fear of those who share your role. So I said it and take full responsibility for it.

I am sure the ban button that many love to weild like a child who found their dad's gun will be targeted on me and that is fine. I just hope this topic remains open in the hopes that changes may one day be made and TRF regains the glory we have heard it once had.

It's been fun guys.

Laters!

First off, let me state that, considering your actions in the past (which I knew of even before roleplaying with you), and your actions recently, concerning both myself and others, that I owe you pretty much nothing. That being said, I am not by nature a very cruel person, and at times I can find compassion where common sense deems there shouldn't be any. So while I owe you nothing, I will say this.

When I attempted to leave TRF, and in doing so abandoned our current plot lines, it in no way had anything to do with you. I did not run out because I didn't want to fight you, or because I thought you were a prick. It hurt me a lot to abandon such a storyline which I believe, despite whatever ugly motives you may have had for pursuing it, was rather fun to write. But my real life has not been a handful of roses lately, and I thought it for the best that I did not attempt to compete with anyone on this board for a while in a fleeting or political sense.

When it became apparent that I was pretty much the only one willing to deal with you, and with my leave of absence that no one was exactly jumping at the chance to write with you, or should I say, against you, I did whatever I could to ensure that the plot lines came to an end that both sides were happy with. I spoke with Wilkar and Omnae, and Omnae told me to tell you to send him a PM regarding these story lines. I did so. You did not send him any such PM. I have proof in the form of read receipts that you did, indeed, receive and read my PM.

I would have liked to finish those story lines, I really would have. But it is probably for the best that I didn't, as it has become obvious that you don't have the pure and shining desire for "just a story" that you claimed. Like Lupercus said, you've tried to shaft Hapes a dozen times before, and I guess this is just another in your long line of petty vendettas. Well good, I'm glad you're going. I'll be glad to have Damalis back, and I'll be glad to never have to speak with you again.

I am sorry, Brutus, that things didn't turn out as well as you might have liked. I'm sure you thought that Xilen seemed like a good guy, and most people do at first. Get in touch with either me or Om if you'd like to find a way to resolve these unfinished plot lines in a way that would be mutually beneficial to both factions. While Xilen has been a massive prick, you can hardly be faulted. And considering my unorthodox position in the situation I can hardly request that you let the Commonwealth come out the unquestionable victor, so I'd be more than willing to make a compromise with you and the Union.

Good bye Xilen. If you ever sneak back, don't try to write with me.

Ishara, I kind of understand what you’re mad about, but I don’t understand why you feel threatened, or feel that TRF is restrictive. To the best of my knowledge, you can do just about anything you would like.

As for a ‘regime change’, eh? What has the administration done to deserve that? You don’t need to fear a ban button attack for being critical of the staff, far from it. I believe the only things we really ban people for would be jackassedness and cockaroony. Not honest opinions. I would like to hear your opinions. If for some reason you think the staff is going to go out and get you, you could PM them to me.

Cheerio Akasha/Xilen. The irony is that in leaving, you'll never know if your words had any effect on the community. Thus, I reckon you'll be back...

TRF runs newbies out the door faster than they can post

That's the point that I take issue with. I'm a newbie by the standards of the board and I've not been "run out of the door". Why? Perhaps because I've not acted too much like one? I've not godmoded, I've tried to RP fairly, I've taken advice from the more experienced RPers here and most importantly I've shown a respect for the existing history of TRF. (At least, I've tried to do all the above)

Perhaps that's where some "newbies" (and others) go wrong.

Speaking of the Battlegrounds, what happened to it? Lack of activity is killing it, that’s what. You might as well change TRF into a general chat board since that is where all the activity is driven.

If that's what people want to do, then, in fairness, you can't stop them. I would rather spend a few days reading for every post I make and make it a good one, rather than post utter drivel every ten minutes. If the people here want to post about IC politics, the latest films or Youtube then what's wrong with that? Hell, if the fleeters want to argue the toss OOC about some IC engagement, and they enjoy doing that, then that's fine. As long as they don't get in your way then live and let live.

The community isn't sizzlingly active, but there are just enough posts each day so that we can keep up with it. Any faster and we'd not all know what was going on!

Finally, I feel I should draw your attention to a quotation from the FAQ:

If you find yourself beginning to despise TRF and its OOC politics, Kas suggests that you avoid the OOC forums and burry yourself in the Battlegrounds. That is the heart of TRF, that is the reason you should be here.

Think about it.

TRF does not repel newbies. TRF is fine. Even if it wasn't, then say something in a calm and collected way in order to change it. Present the specifics of what's the matter, with examples, and who knows - the Staff may even change the rules if you make a strong enough case. Making overblown dramatic gestures fixes nothing.
