i seen some pictures in our national newspaper "The Sun" for POTC3. Chow Yun Fat (most notably from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is playing the villain role, i believe.

I detested the second film, and loved the first. I can only imagine that 3 will be a total and utter waste of time (if not money 'cos, if the rumor-mill is to be trusted, this one is gonna net large, large bank).
Neat fact, 07 is supposed to be the most expensive and profitable movie-going-year ever. Dunno if it's true, I read it in the paper.

It's true, the three top grossing franchises (POTC 2 has over one billion, Spider-man 2 had like 800 million, and Harry Potter 4 had over one billion) have movies coming out. Spider-man 3, POTC 3, and Harry Potter 5. So yeah, it will be a huge year for Hollywood.
And no Jack isn't alive. He died after being swallowed by the Cracken, somehow they bring him back however. As you can clearly see in the trailer he says one of the four (Elizabeth, Barbossa, Will, and the weird lady) succedded in killing him and they all look at Elizabeth (she tied him to the ship letting him die).
