Kneel Before Zod!
As for getting my friends and family to join...

1) None of them besides me are Star Wars geeks. My dad likes Star Trek and makes fun of Star Wars. My dad hated Episode 2 and said that the script was fifth grade work. He said -I- could write better than that, and that's comparing me to a director who CREATED Star Wars in the first place and has way more experience in writing than me.

Well, I am a Trekkie too. Save for the special effects, I was not a fan of episode 2 or episode 1 (for that matter). Still, there is something about Star Wars that refuses to die.

However, in answer to your dad, simply ask him what the deal was with Star Trek V? He'll quiet down after that.

2) ....They're computer illeterate. They barely know how to type, and wouldn't last long posting on the message boards.

ouch. Yeah, knowing how to type is a must.

3) I don't trust them saying something stupid to my online friends...Which HAS happened, thanks to my dad. Because of some chick thinking I dated some...guy I didn't even know from the internet, he thought I had an online boy friend.
LOL... Sorry to laugh at your expense but I can imagine your dad trying to grill you and your online friend over mysterious bf.

Still, I note you didn't answer the question as to whether you did or not...

4)...I'd be much better off just starting it out slow and hoping to build the members up to a good amount than having friends and family join.

Heh... ok

5) None of them would actually remember to post because they don't spend that much time on the net.

That's cause they're too busy looking over your shoulder eh?

Danni, I am not bashing you in any way. You have RP skills and you do show potential, and I know that I shouldn't be one to talk about keeping a good, active board. (Poor Realm of Azeroth never stood a chance :'( ) The thing I have to say is that you should take their advice. Yes, it is nice to have a board where everything is obvious and simple. But I must remind you, that when you make a new board...and there aren't that many posts...it isn't hard to get lost. After all, if the people have any sense of RP or organization, it shouldn't be too bad.

But because of the expanse of the Star Wars Universe, it isn't wise to have specific forums. Or else people will be confused on where to post about an RP that isn't near any planet that you have.

Again, I am not trying to insult you are critique. I am just pointing things out...that have already been pointed out while making myself sound intelligent and impressive in forum knowledge.

Oh and Omnae, Star Trek V is definitly crap. Damn whale lovers ruining my Star Trek...

Just an observation, something I've noticed over five years in the SW RPing community. Trying to recruit people to join a Star Wars roleplay community, from another already active Star Wars roleplaying community, doesn't usually work. See, they already have their main place to play. They've been there for years, know the ropes, etc and don't tend to have the time or inclination to devote themselves to another community, let alone one struggling to get off the ground. You should try different kinds of message boards, maybe ones just full of Star Wars fans of the non-roleplaying variety, see if you can convert some of them.

Pick up newbies, not veterans. They'll stick around, and helping them out in the beginning will put you in good stead for dealing with future generations of no-brainers.

Hell, ask him about ST: Nemesis or Insurrection. What the hell was that crap? Bleh! And bring up ST:Enterprise on TV. What a joke.

Actually, that was Star Trek:IV...

I like Star Trek V, if only for the time traveling bit. I always enjoyed the Star Trek episodes where they went into the past, or went ot a planet that was themed after earth's past.

Other than that, it was crap.

fuck that duck
I was forced to endure a Strek Trek movie on a plane once. Nemesis, or something. Had some guy fighting a clone of himself?

I'd rate it on the same level as Episode I - shit.
[size=1]"So the woman asked me what I wanted on the sandwich and I said I do not care it is for a duck, and she was like oh then it's free. I was not aware that ducks eat for free at Subway. It's like give me a chicken fajita sub, but don't worry about ringing it up, it is for a duck.”
