Hey, Star Trek actually partially hits Warp Theory, unlike Star Wars which is all 'Well, if this worked...'. Anti-matter can be created thanks to a super-collider, we just haven't found a way of harvesting them yet. And super-colliders are extremely epenisve to run untop of that. A matter/anti-matter reaction would create a great deal of energy that, if properly harvested, could be used.
Warp travel isn't 'We make a bubble to protect ourself from above-lightspeed. Warp is folding the fabric of space itself to change the distance between two points in space. Imagine having a huge field, and then having the field move into a hill with a tunnel in between. That shortens the distance you would have to travel.
I hope someone else understands my crappy analogy...
But basically, it's not that you are moving faster, it is that you are moving a shorter distance.
I don't know how Star Trek does it, but that's Warp. Or at least the Theory as it was presented to me.
I could rant on with my geeky, scientific explanations...but for the love of God/Allah/Buddah/any other religious figure dont' let me rant on further. Stupid science project and it making me learn all this crap and my desire for people knowing things...
