Representatives of the National Hockey League will resume talks with the National Hockey League Players' Association this week in an effort to reach a new collective bargaining agreement according to NHL Executive Vice President Bill Daly.
The talks will be held at an undisclosed location.
"The NHL and the NHLPA agreed to resume collective bargaining meetings this week," Daly said. "Neither side will be disclosing the date(s), time(s), or location(s) of the meeting(s) scheduled.
"We both believe that the process now will be better served by a less-public approach to the negotiation."

In the sense that they don't actually provide any neccessary facets of life to mankind, yes.
But I thought I'd comment on this; music as an art form has been around longer than writing has, and much longer than the contemporary novel has. As a form of expression and a defining factor of culture, it ranks at least as high if not higher than writing. In many cases it is also a purer and more timeless art form; whereas much literature from previous eras is now in effect lost to us because the intent or thinking behind it is archaic and alien, or now perceived as enormously stupid or corrupt. Bach compositions are as fresh and relevant as they were yesterday.
Whether that's a comment on the stagnation of western music or the brilliance of Bach I don't know.

I agree entirely. I was simply stating that the presence of absence of music or writing isn't a deciding factor in whether we live through the day or not.

If human society's achievements were entirely technological and economic but not cultural, I'd argue that living through the day wouldn't be particularly high concern. Humanity's greatest achievements, in my opinion, are its works of art -- be they paintings, music, literature or even scientific, science being the art of exploring the universe.
Ultimately you've got to ask yourself why "survival" is a priority. If your only reason is "because" then your society is a 100-story building with nothing inside.

Literature Gone Wrong:
Charles Dickens was considered one of the greatest writers in history by many people. Sure he could write in many styles and such, but just because he could do that I do not think he is a great writer. None of his works have kept me from putting down whatever of his I happen to be reading. His novels are dull and his style is outdated.
"The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros is nothing but a series of random events that could happen by immature people in everyday life... and I don't care if it relates to how she grows up or any other nonsense people come up with. I don't need to here about her life, if she wants to talk to people about it, don't write a shitty and boring book, go on Oprah or something.
"Rebecca," is another horrible novel that for some random reason people thought was good literature. It was basic writing and the story didnt even pick up until like the last three chapters... somebody shoot me if I try to pick this up again!
