in the film's novelization, in which Sidious says, "Darth Plagueis was my master . . . before I killed him."

Beside it is implied by the film and stated by Lucas that Plagueis was his Master. In fact James Luceno is writing a book about him.

just to add, according to wikepedia, there may have been a connection between grievous and skywalker...

think of it, grievous was rebuilt by palpatine in secret, thus "preventing death" and also anakin became darth vader by life support systems, thus "preventing death" once more....

think of that....
