Return of the King of the Cafe!
I know it's kind of embarassing to say this after all the discussion we've had, but I talked about this issue over AIM and decided that this is something many people wouldn't know right off the bat. I didn't like it the first time it happened to me, so this time, I've decided I'll let it slide - we'll have a nice, fair fight, and not pick aimlessly on our technicailities.

I'll edit the post for the fighters to deploy fine, and we'll fight it out.

To solidify a position, since TRF has mostly by and large in the past played the lowering of shields (planetary as well as vessel) before launching fighters..

Planet Example:

Best Defense is a Good Offence (Falleen)

Estro Sabrino

The full Falleen defense forces came forward and formed up to challenge Imperial forces as the planetary shields raised and fighters moved in from the surface and launched from the launch bays of the warships. Several holes opened in the now raised planetary shield and the defense fighters poured throgh to join the fleet before the shields sealed up again. As this all occured a channel was opened to the Imperial fleet and Grinov addressed them. (Italics Mine)
Vessel Example:

Post #1 “Not really. Move us forward, moderate pace. Order the Immobilizers to begin to correct their course, north-east, and launch the TIE Devils.”

Post #2 Theren shrugged. “Do the same. Raise all shields.”
I would suppor the position that shields need to be lowered before fighters are launched (during a competitive fleet roleplay). If you forgo this in your own storyline roleplays we aren't going to be that anal as it is your roleplay and assume your people know what they are doing. However, fleet roleplays take advantage of OOC omissions as they do IC mistakes. That is the nature of competitive roleplaying.

And yet, if such an omission is made and not taken advantage of, then the one doing the omitting gets away with it and his counterpart loses the opportunity.

Back with a Vengeance
I think we should've just thrown out all this technicality BS along with the old rules and just gone for pure storyline tatics when fleeting.

I've begun to reread The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, and noticed this in the beginning of Heir to the Empire, and thought of you guys. Sweetums.

Grand Admiral Thrawn:
Drop docking bay deflector shields, boost power to all others. TIE fighter squadrons: launch when ready.

Make of it what you will.
