There must be a pattern to Lup's activity cycle. If someone were bored enough they could plot it out on a graph and make a bit of a name for themselves by predicting when he'll appear next.

That's not hard. It's that brief period between getting out of univsersity for break and being too drunk to care, and that other brief period between drying out to go back but still being home.
