I wasn't talking about planetary takeovers. Give me a little credit.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend or anything. Just was trying to figure out where you were coming from.
I built the Cooperative. Corise built the Confederation. I haven't been around long enough to know who-built-what-when beyond that, but everybody else has their own chunks of TRF that are undeniably the result of their personal work. Am I going to be able to age the Cooperative as fully and substantially as you will age the Galaxy?
Yes. Within reason and within the parimeters of the "changed galactic stage".
My question is: while you're setting the galactic stage for war, or anarchy, or a Yuuzhan Vong invasion, will I (for example) be able to set the Cooperative's stage as I envision it at the dawn of this new era?
I should hope so.
Does the story of “one year later” get to run off of the page, or does it have to stop at whatever margins your Galactic Prompt sets up?
??
You've said you don't plan to “sweat the small stuff,” but will I get to?
You may sweat whatever you wish to sweat.
Because one of those small things is probably the Cooperative, and I want to make sure that I get to fill in what you passed over. Am I going to be free to project the Cooperative into this new future, or will I have to write some extensive piece of backstory every time I try to bring one minor element of plot into the new “present” in order to make it legitimate?
If it's a minor element, I should think not.
Here's a prime example. Corise and I did a thread concerning trade and diplomatic relations between the Cooperative and Confederation, centered on the creation of a trade route. There was allusion to the possibility of continued future collaboration, friendship, etc. After the proposed year, and taking into account the status of the renovated galaxy, we may have strengthened those bonds, or maybe broke them. But we should be able to decide where the seeds of that thread have gone, and our decision should be considered substantial and valid without some endless list of rps showing Cooperative soldiers training under Confeds or some Contegorian trade station being built around Varn. By the same magical properties of this event that will allow you start wars and trade planets, we should be able to decide how events between our two groups in the past have led to this moment in time. Obviously, if Varn was invaded by interdimentional cockroaches according to your master plan, then Corise couldn't have a trade station built there, but the premise still stands. We (individual members of the community) should get to write how our plans have evolved, though confined to the larger framework established by Omnae.
You do not need an endless list of rps showing Cooperative soldiers training under Confeds or Contegorian trading station being built now. Why would you have to do it then?
What I am painting will be the political landscape. So let's say I pit the Confederation and the Coalition at war with each other and let's say at the rp's start, you are six months into the war with a planet or two taken/lost. Your own part of the Coalition, the Cooperative, and it's own personal relationship with the Confederation and where their ties of friendship have gone (whether stronger despite the war, weaker because of the war, whether you've taken over Corise's Varn trading station as a launch point to Kashan) is all up to you.
You can pick up the fight with your guys saying, "yeah, we hate those traitorous dogs the Confederation!" or, if you and Corise (OOC) have it firm in mind that you are going to be friends IC no matter what, you can end the war,etc..etc..
However you choose, let's say you choose to hate the Confederation due to the war, then it will be assumed that your relationship IC really deteriorated (tragic as it is). Now, if you and Corise decide to delve deeper into that assumption and write a story showing just how that relationship could have deteriorated, this would be a filler rp to bridge the gap of that year and it could be a single rp, a series of rp's ..or whatever you and Corise decide. Obviously the filler rp would be more of a character rp than fleet rp but you and he can write it however you want.
Now, lets say you choose that your friendship with the Confederation pretty much remains constant despite the war situation, then I would say that it can be "assumed" that your relationship with the rest of the Coalition is deterioritating as you are remaining friends with a political enemy.
But.. but.. "That's stupid, Omnae! Why would the Coalition and Confederation be at war?"
Perhaps Regrad undergoes an assassination attempt that points to Confederation and an interim leader represents a growing militant political party that calls for the war! Perhaps the assassin
is a disgruntled Kashan who loses his two sons and daughter in the Bilbringi attack??
But yeah, how you and Corise and Dolash wish to write in the gap towards these circumstances (if you want too) is entirely up to you. I also think that if Dolash, Corise and you do not really feel like writing a conflict against each other then this "war" will be very short-lived as a roleplaying vehicle.
All I am going to do is change the galactic circumstances around a bit but ultimately, it's up to the roleplayers to do something or nothing. If they do nothing, however, then it will be assumed that those circumstances are still being continued so if roleplayers like you, Corise or Dolash decide to drop off for a year and then come back, your nations will still be at war.
Of course, now that I've told this senario, I cannot use it. But hopefully it was a useful example.
I'm looking for an assurance that the rest of us will get to use the same cause-and-effect concept as Omnae when we're dealing with our own little corners of TRF.
Well, yeah. I do it all the time.
An example being Bhindi Drayson's lost Metalorn Thread. One of the conditions of Bowing at the Feet of Tyrants rp was that a TNO Embassy to Coalition be built on Metalorn and Bhindi Drayson is referenced as having left with her fleet in a couple of rp's.
But the rp of her arrival at Metalorn has never been done.
Couple that with the pullout of the Confederation from the Coalition, it is safe to assume that there is no embassy of TNO to the Coalition on a Confederation world.
The actual details of Bhindi's trip and if TNO has another embassy in Coalition space I do not sweat as I assume the pullout could have happened while Bhindi was enroute (thus making the trip moot) or Confederation stalled her at Metalorn until they pulled out.
It doesn't really matter as that particular condition in Bowing at the Feet of Tyrants had the desired effect of driving the Confederation out of the Coalition (not the establishment of some embassy; why have an embassy when Dolash goes to Coruscant anyway?).
Note to all: This thread is not supposed to be a "Omnae's take on what happened to everyone in the next year". This is supposed to be a roleplay that tries to put things on more equal footing without resorting to a dreaded restart of having everyone being at point zero with one planet. In my opinion, THAT sort of pisses on everyone's work and it's kind of disheartening to see it all vanish in the blink of a restart. The last time, we used an IC storyline (Transitions story) to
explain an OOC staff decision (restart). We put everyone back to square one and then thought, how do we explain this IC? The result was Gash Jiren writing Transitions and it is now TRF history and I have referenced it quite a bit in my own stories. In this instance, we are using an IC storyline to
effect an OOC change (namely, an equalizing of sorts) and I imagine it will be referenced as a part of TRF history in the future.
Still, the equalizing effect lessens the gap between the smallest factions and the larger and more powerful factions (irregardless of IC activity). That's why groups like the Alliance or Guild are not high on my list of "What am I going to do" because these groups are relatively small and, therefore, do not need much in the way of any 'equalizing' activity. It is the larger, more powerful groups that will have the greatest amount of change so that the smaller groups can see some sort of light at the end of the tunnel rather than seventeen squadrons of ISD's or Seraphs coming to blow the shit out of them.
So, if your group does not get as much treatment for change as the larger groups, do not think it is a slight on my part or me thinking you are not active enough. If you are small and active then that shows you are hungry. Just pretend that this is me bringing you the buffet table.
That being said, if you would like some sort of note in the rp, show me some links and I'll do my reading. Corise, you mentioned other works for the Alliance other than Inferno Fleet's (I must admit I had forgotten Inferno Fleet was part of the Alliance as they seem more suited to being part of the Union), so if you could link those rp's (whether complete or not), I'd appreciate seeing them. You may not believe this but there are some roleplays that I have not read.
