Just because it is necessary, does not make it an intelligent decision to participate.

Yes, Zell. I am pained to admit that military means are the only way to establish certain rights and freedoms.

But our military are merchants of death.

We're fighting a war over nothing except profits right now. And we have been doing the same thing, on a lesser scale, ever since Korea.

So if Kach were to ask me if I think it would be a reasonably intelligent idea for him to join a good intentioned military, then I'd begrudgingly agree.

But Kach is asking me if I think it would be a reasonable intelligent idea for him to join our military. And my answer is, unwaveringly, fuck no.

And I never said that I was correct. I believe I am correct, but the problem with opinions is that there never is a right or a wrong. Only what you believe to be right or wrong.

I'm telling Kach my honest opinion on whether or not he should join the Marines. You're calling me a terrible person for doing so, and why? Just because I disagree with your view of the military?

Zark, please point out anywhere where I said that you're a terrible person? I don't have any problem whatsoever with your opinion of the military. You're saying we're arguing because of our differing opinions of the military. If you read what you said, it's pretty much the same thing I said.

The only problem I have is you making statements like, "Joining the military is so mind numbingly stupid an idea that I can't even bear to read the outcome of this thread for fear that you might actually do it." There's no reason to insult Kach for whatever decision he makes. Believe me, we all disagree with even our closest friends, but there's no reason to make a comment like that.

Your last post summed up exactly how you feel, and it did so without insulting those who have opposing viewpoints. But I'll reiterate, I never ONCE called you a terrible person, and it's not my opinion that you are a terrible person. Like I said, when you broke down what you thought, it's pretty much the same thing I said previously.

I don't have any problem with your opinions, just the way you worded them. There's no need to blatantly offend someone who's only trying to make a decision to benefit themself, and on top of that he asked us so that we could offer any advice. You could have done that without saying it was such a mind numbingly stupid idea. That's all I'm trying to get across. You know I have a man crush on you Zark.

I served and I think it was a terrible mistake. Then again I joined before Iraq and Afghanistan and I had no intention of fighting in a war I didn't believe in. I don't believe in what we are doing abroad in the very least. I wouldn't ever re-up given the chance.

I think Zark has a good point, people who join the Army or Marines during times of war for reasons such as 'discipline' and 'school' are making mistakes. I hate to say it Kach, but your talking about going into the Marines, and if you make it out of BT and MOS you are going right to the shit and you'll have a 25% chance of not coming back and a 50% chance of not coming back in full health. Join the Navy or Air Force, they will pay more toward school and provide just as much discipline.

I am in Army ROTC, so if you want to join the Marines, do NROTC and you can branch off as a Marine officer. The good thing about that is that you can go to Basic Training, then head to college and get a degree while learning to become an officer. Also, when you are in ROTC, you are undeployable until you get your commission.
