However, despite them both wearing Corpsepaint I don't find that they sound alike at all. They are grouped together due to their appearance and the fact that their music utilizes keyboards. And in my opinion I find Cradle of Filth's "middle" era to be their best... but that's just me, I understand a lot of people don't like them for their reasons - but, for reasons I can't even explain, they are one of my favourite bands.
Being a guitar player myself though I find bands like Opeth, Blind Guardian etc. appeal to me because of the guitar playing - also why I bought the Dream Theater live at the Budokan DVD, just to see the guitar soloing
However, I find that any discussion about musical tastes and then attempting to justify them is purely redundant as we all have our own tastes and what we like about them and no argument that any of us can present will change that

Long and short - Metallica rocks.
Old Metallica is the best, but some of the newer stuff is also pretty good. Anything from Kill 'Em All until the Black Album is amazing (so Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and The Black Album).

I love Master of Puppets! Don't know as many songs as I would like to by Metallica but I have a small list of favourites:

I really like their stuff after Kill 'Em All. Like I said I'm not too into Thrash Metal and that... so from Ride the Lightning on the music seemed to mature a bit and became more than just a "Kill 'Em All" played as hard and fast as you can type of music.
