A few friends of mine and their neighbors stayed over here to get away from the storm. This morning, we went to see what damage had been done to their houses and try and recover what we could.

Yes, Damalis, I live in Polk County. Why?
Well, yesterday morning I rode with my dad, who works in Polk County Emergency Radio Services, to the EOC for the county, where we got to spend 12 hours doing what we could to set up and maintain communications for the coordination of the relief services. First we set up a LAN, drove down to Ft. Meada (My god, the destruction there is total), got their LAN, since they don't have eletricity, and drove back up to Bartow to set up the communications. Then we drove around Southern Polk Country through and around Frostproof to see the damage, and check up on the radio towers in that area. of the two we checked on, both were ok, with one having an antenna yanked around at a 45 degree angle. Saw hundreds of power poles, thousands of trees, from small thin pines, to massive oaks, and palms, either uprooted, or snapped in half like twigs. Aluminum from roofs, and porches all over the place in some areas. As a matter of fact, the aluminum from car porches in some cases blew up against the power poles, and provided a wind breaker to help the winds bring down the poles.
Down in Charlotte, Punta Gorda was been wiped off the map, the town destroyed, the 4th Best ranked living area in the USA not so anymore. It will be at least 4-8 weeks before power is resoted to people and utilities there. Up here, 1 week is expected for power restoration.
Total damage estimates to date are: 500,000 homes and buisness damaged or destroyed, 20 billion dollars in damages, and 16 people killed.
We have had strong storms using leftover humidity from the hurricane hitting and cramping rescue and relief work, and two tornadoes have spawned within two days just near Fort Meade.
