I'm confusing ibuypower with NCIX. If you're gonna go the "custom" PC route, go with www.mwave.com

nForce chipsets have a lot of low level bugs that no one really talks about unless you work for some sort of OEM. On the whole the 680i has matured ok but it's not as good as an intel chipset.

Single GTX. The power consumption increase to go SLI is silly. Single GTXs are mindboggling fast anyway.

The 999 is an awesome case that isn't loud and will keep your stuff nice and cold.
The PSU is good, it's an Enermax unit.

Swapped out the HD for a 400 GB model thats 90% as fast for half the money.
Same CPU
Asus P35 based motherboard.
8800 GTX

Picked an X-Fi Extreme Audio instead of "Gamer" which has features no one ever uses and just costs more.

SATA DVD writer

XP Media Center. It's XP pro without domain support and a few other nice features.

Niiice. Thank you for the advice. I'll bookmark that site, take some of those considerations, make adjustments for whatever changes in technology have been made in the next few months, and order when I get back from sea in November.

Man, none of that will really apply in November. Check back then, I'll be happy to do a new list.

LOL, you're my savior. That's what I figured. I know new video cards will be available by then but wasn't sure how quickly new motherboards, RAM, etc come out.

I really just did a kind of preemptive build to get an idea of what kind of quality I could get for the price range I'm shooting for.

I am back from sea with a few G's saved up and ready to buy myself a monster!

Are you around Morgan??

I am. Wassup?

Hyfe, send me an e-mail with details (exact budget, goals, need a monitor/keyboard/whatever) and I will give you suggestions.

Just, whatever you do, don't get something with Vista preinstalled. Use your old hard drive or go with XP. Or better yet, a Unix/Linux based system that can actually run games (yay! (if one existed)).

And no I'm not Canadian, why do you ask?

In Canada, most of our submarines are at the West Edmonton Mall. The other ones either spend most of their time in dry-dock, or on fire. I'd guess it had something to do with that.
