Welcome to TRF; read the rules, play nice, and start your character with simple items before you begin, so as to build him/her up (don't start with an armada, for example); typically a weapon, a freighter/starfighter (keep the fighter reasonable), and clothing.
Also, join a faction. Don't create one. At least not until you're well versed in how we run, and you have a reputation to back you up.
Do this, and you will be fine.
As stated, follow the forum links to TNO's area, and simply throw your lot down in their application forum; it might be best to create a character biography first, but that's up to you.
