Read Brave New World. That book was freaking awesome. Lord of the Flies I didn't really enjoy mainly because I am not a big fan of that 'underlying subtone' book type. *shrugs*

Yeah. Lord of the Flies was a bit crazy. The teacher stopped us at the first paragraph to discuss symbolism. We were like, we only read a paragraph...It was pretty hefty reading for 9th grade.

I read Lord of the Flies in 9th grade as well – it must be mandatory for all freshman. I really enjoyed the imagery and metaphors, however…

… I thought the “breaking of the conch symbolizing the deterioration of civilization and thus, the ushering in of anarchy…” was pretty cool. It blew my early-adolescent mind ;p

Brave new world is also on my list. It’s funny, I missed out on so many great novels in HS because they had us ready Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mocking Bird over and over and over again.

Heheh. I remember Huck Finn in 10th grade. I also remember reading Twain's "The Awful German Language" essay and not getting any of the humor in it at all until it was explained to me. It was very nerdy humor too.

What's brave new world about anyway, I've heard that it's really good but I've never gotten arund to reading it.

Who's it by? I'm on my libraries website and there's at least 3 Brave new worlds by different authors.
