The Rebel Faction

In defense of TGC, while Ceel was somewhat kneejerk about the negative response to the idea, and the board has in the past advocated flaming and intolerance and insulting of other boards, Bane has tried to play mediator and act on behalf of TGC with rational suggestion and discussion, and while we've had this discussion, TGC member Mac posted links to both SithLore and The Rebel Faction in a sticky thread on TGC advocating members browse and post on them. These are positive steps, and while not nessessarily enough to overwrite years of mistrust, they are a start.

To be perfectly (and perhaps offensively in the process; you will excuse) blunt, I take issue with SWFans being a member of this project. While you have been nothing but supportive in this thread, and have offered suggestions and prototype designs and encouraged your members to contribute, I perused your FAQ recently and found it to be worrying, specifically, SWFans strict policy towards advertising. I do not find it to be compatible with trying to spread unity and grow the roleplaying community...

...but that's not the point.

I'm not saying SWFans should be excluded because I don't like your policy. Every single board that joins this unity project will have undesirable elements in the eyes of others, no matter how small or how prevalent they are. We all have something that makes us incompatible... after all, if we were all the same, we would all be on the same boards already. What we should focus on is looking BEYOND that. Rather then focusing on the negatives we should focus on the positives, and focus on that which makes us the same and not that which makes us different. We all have issues and we all have scars. We can argue forever and ultimately those issues will still exist.

I think we should move past them.

So please I would respectfully request TGC, and SithLore to be added to the list of interested communities.

Fan's advertising policy is basically around so we can easily ban spammers.

Which is fine; no one likes spam, especially mindless spam, however it's wording is intimidating and seems very concrete in terms of links to other roleplaying boards, and as such, I hesitated to mention this idea over there while I made the rounds of most other boards earlier this week.

But, how you word, enforce, enjoy, or destroy your FAQ is up to you, the staff of SWFans, and only you. It should not be allowed to stand in the way of a project like this.

Lil, do you think that you could ask members of Aramir/Meras/StarWarsRPG.net if they are interested? I believe all were created by former/current SWFans members and as such it's probably for the best if the discussion is broached by a friendly face.
