Well, shooting or not, the question remains - is self-destruct plausible in this situation?

*Polite Cough* Omega? Omnae? Still waiting on the Self-Destructing issue. As further posting validates previous posts, I can't proceed until either satisfied by an edit, convinced of the validity of the tactic, or otherwise told to proceed by a staff.

My only issue with it really is does your description before the self destruction post adequately illustrate that pieces of the ship have remained on the suface while only the middle section falls or that the entire ship has fallen into the hole.

This is not a matter of what you wanted to describe or what you intended to describe but what you actually did describe.

And personally, I think your description alludes more to the entire ship falling than just the middle section.

If the ONLY piece of the ship on the bottom is simply the center section of the ship, then no. No self destruct.

If the other pieces are there along with the middle section (as described in Omega's post), then I think it's plausable.



But get another admin (Ahnk?) as we've been arguing about this for a while and I have not convinced you and you have not convinced me. So whatever a third party agrees too is fine with me.

Well, in the latest post of The Profits of War (Kubindi), Omega Thrax's Dreadnought self-destructs inside the capital city of Kubindi, wiping out buildings and people. Now, the whole argument about how much damage such an explosion would do is beyond my comprehension (Do the Ion reactors leave deadly, Chernobyl-style radiation poisoning?) but I think that he couldn't self-destruct his reactor in the first place, because I think the way in which I described the damage inflicted to his vessel in my previous post would not allow for such a command to be given.

In the previous post, I state "Finally passing a tipping point, the central wreck of the starship was sucked down into the hole." after describing that the ship was undergoing the following. "with a terrible, twisted metal sound, the Dreadnought began sinking inwards. Metal twisted and cracked, the high-pitched shriek of distress audible from the air. Before their eyes, the ship sunk into the hole, tearing as more weight and more broken parts ended up sliding in."

Simon argues that this leaves open the possibility that the whole ship would squeeze into the hole and end up in the city below. I instead argue that my point was that only the mid-section of the ship (The "Central wreck", consisting of ruined parts and the distinct middle section of a Dreadnought) would fall down into the hole, citing how I described damage and how for a ship to entirely fall down a hole would require for the hole to be A) as large as the ship, meaning it would have fallen in immediately or requiring of the Dreadnough to break up, fold in two, or otherwise "Snap" to squeeze down the hole.

Considering all this, I say Omega Thrax on his command bridge could not give the self-destruct order, as he would be separated from the reactor - either because it's down in the hole and he's up on the surface, or because it otherwise had to snap to fit down the hole. I even described one of the Projector shots as tearing straight through the heart of the ship, which could just have easily cut the connection to the reactor.

Omnae argues that as he doesn't think I indicated I was firing on the Dreadnough until this turn (Saying "Well, you didn't specifically name the Dreadnought as a target, merely that you were attacking the enemy") then it is entirely possible it didn't sustain enough damage, and feels that as I wasn't specific enough in describing the damage done (Central wreck seemed explicit enough to me) then Omega is free to interpret his ship as miraculously still functioning enough to blow up.
