Welcome to TRF.
It all depends what you want your character to do. Do you tend to like to play a more neutral role, in something like a corporation, or would you prefer to be in the midst of the fighting, at the helm of a Star Destroyer, or on the ground with a blaster in your hands? Or are you more of a sneaky type, someone who likes to appear legit, but secretly be backing the galaxy's largest criminal/terrorist organization? Or are you the diplomat for the neutral government? Or are you more of a lightsaber swinging, do gooder Jedi or a Force Lightning throwing Sith*? TRF has a wide variety of factions, with many different positions available in all of them. I'm sure no matter which faction you wish to join, they will have a position open for you, in the whatever area you want to be in. And the ideas I suggested here are just the tip of the iceberg that TRF has to offer, there are plenty more options for you. And there is no reason you can't combine some of the different options (say a Galactic Coalition Officer and a Jedi). Or you could go the seperate route of not joining a faction at all.
If you wish to join GC, we would be happy to have you. However, I would like to note that GC just received something like 5 new members in the past 2 weeks and there are plenty of other factions who would be happy to have new members, including TNO (The New Order, i.e. Empire). So maybe we should spread the new members around and stop being so greedy...but I'm a greedy person. So join GC! Anyway, think about what you want to accomplish here at TRF, and pick a character to suit that.

I'm sure I'll end up making multiple characters. xD Do you think it would be possible to have a character, say, be an assassin for Ishara and also part of the GC? Just out of curiosity.

Generally belonging in two groups with two different characters would only be an issue if it was GC and TNO (or something similar) because of someone using OOC knowledge to IC gain. And it has happened, an old member of TRF attempted to do it and got banned for it.

Ah, I see. Perhaps I'll check into it after my current Role-Play with Ishara. Would you like me to PM you what I decide to do and we'll go from there? If not, that's fine. ;D

If you decide to go for GC, go to: the "Groups and Factions" section, click on the Coalition section and then post your application to join in the Town Square. And PMing Dolash (group leader) would probably work better than me.
