I did see an interesting scene in a comic book after C-3PO gets shot up by a stormtrooper. An officer asks Lord Vader if he wants the droid to either have it's memory copied, or to have it smelted by the Ugnaughts, and Vader doesn't respond, and instead he just stares at the droid's head.

I think that having the droids in the new movies was a good idea implemented horribly, horribly wrong. So much of the new movies are good ideas gone bad.

Vader, as far as I can tell from that scene with 3PO's head, knew who the droid was and was remembering back into the past... before it was implimented in film form, heh.
