NFL salary cap is estimated at just over $80.5 mil.. keep in mind NFL rosters hold 53 players.. which averages out to just over $1.5 mil per player.. keep in mind also that the NFL is not in the sorry financial state that the NHL is in thus averaging only $100k more per player isn't at all crazy. Assuming that your team is at the cap limit which 90% of teams are not.

Bettman said that the NFL has 85% of their teams within a million dollars of the salary cap.

Nope.. actually as of last season only 4 teams in the whole NFL were less than 2 million under the cap.. meaning 28 NFL teams had total salaries less than $70.5 mil.

NFL salaries are based on 1-7 year contracts+ signing bonuses, a team cannot be paying its players more than 80.5 million each year in order to compete. However, often owners will not fill up this full salary cap if they feel they do not have to or just don't believe the season is worth it with the team's current abilities.

fuck that duck
It's little wonder, what with the players talking like this:

"From day one the owners didn't want the season,"

[size=1]"So the woman asked me what I wanted on the sandwich and I said I do not care it is for a duck, and she was like oh then it's free. I was not aware that ducks eat for free at Subway. It's like give me a chicken fajita sub, but don't worry about ringing it up, it is for a duck.”

It shouldn't be a suprise but on tuesday they were really fierce trying to come up with something... and the difference was only 6 million...

Ya but like I said... too little too late... if they were that close to an agreement months ago there might have been hope. But until just recently neither side wanted to budge..
