I don't think we have any set in stone, Kas is the expert on stuff like that. Most people who don't want to see signatures just have them turned off in their profiles, but the ones who don't probably don't want to see giant signatures filling the bottom of RP posts. I'd say use common sense and if someone asks you to tone it down, do so.

Avatars are limited by the forum to 150x150. Signatures should be small enough that they don't become obtrusive. They're limited to displaying once per page, too.
