In reading the threads over I come to the conclusion that GC should hold onto Anoat for now.
Brutus does make a very good case for there to
be a Liberty Sect on the planet (that's alive and well) trying to make a case for independence from the Coalition. But based on what has happened:
1. Initial calls for independence would gain members, perhaps enough to picket. But it would not be representative of the entire planet imo.
We can have a march on Washington today for the US to pull out of the UN but that does not mean the US will pull out or would even be close to pulling out.
2. The IC public link of GLF and Liberty Sect would actually weaken the foundation of Liberty Sect's claims and any corporate sponsorship or public opinion (on Anoat) that originally wanted to be associated with Liberty Sect's popular independence from GC movement would dry up.
3. Anoat already has an independent government. Those elected officials have decided to be a part of the GC (thus gaining the benefits of the organization).
The people themselves do not make these planetwide affecting decisions. The persons they elect do. All the march has done is "show" the elected officials that a bunch of people would like independence from GC. In any event, I do not believe a single holonet broadcast would "sway" anyone but extremist on Anoat to begin with.
For the people to effect this change (right now), they would all need to arm against their own elected government and the issue cannot be the pressing issue Brutus would like to think because the GC is actually helping them.
It's like you say they want to take up arms to kill their leaders if they don't stop accepting bread from an interested 3rd party.
The elected officials can be voted out of office or have their palms greased by the Liberty Sect to set about changes that would eventually see the planet pulled out of the Coalition. But since that has not been set up, it doesn't look like that would happen anytime soon.
Independence from oppression is one thing. Independence for the sake of pride is something else altogether and I think the people would be able to tell the difference.
What Brutus should have done to effect this is to get an official elected within the higher level of government on Anoat. That is where the decision to remain in the GC or not would be made.
I think Belgardi, in his haste, jumped the gun.
