It's called a monopoly. The leading search engine on the web moving into the email server and web hosting business is choking the market, in the same way that Microsoft bundling word processors, internet browsers, and email servers with their operating systems was cornering the market.

"And what exactly is wrong with the name Thumper?"
Ah, righto. It makes more sense when I think about it like an American.

Actually, it was about privacy issues. Gmail uses its Adsense ad system to read your email, and then serve ads based upon what you're talking about.

There's no monopoly issue yet, Hotmail, Yahoo, MSN, etc, all have a firm old in the industry, and Gmail will need a lot of momentum to start threatening them.

Monopoly? Can I be the tophat?

I love crack, if it weren't for crack I wouldn't have been able to buy a DVD player for ten bucks.

Seriously though, I wanna be the tophat.

Well, anti-adware spyware legislation is hardly limited to California.

In any case, believe if that the monopoly issue WILL come up.

I doubt it, at least, not any time soon. The other mail providers have a huge hold of the market, and they won't let go easily. They'll start upping their service to keep customers, and then Google will do something, etc.

By the way, Gmail has this nifty auto-login feature. Checking the mail is basically as easy as clicking a bookmark, bounces you automatically to the inbox, no typing at all.

Hotmail has that too. >_<

Does Hotmail automatically archive all your messages into threads? Eg: all replies back and forth via one thread are all displayed in a condensed version when you view one message.

I haven't used Hotmail for a few years.

Automatically it does. It annoys the shit out of me, however, so I delete them.

I kind of like it. I like the search function too, though I don't ever delete email anyway, as all my accounts have POP3 access, so I just use Thunderbird.
