It wasn't the entire British Fleet, it was one Battleship and some destroyers that were providing distant protection for one of those large Artic convoys providing war materiel for the Russian campaign.

Yeah, so? Scharnhorst actually had several accompayning destroyers that would have made it even, if the commander of the Scharnhorst hadn't detached them to go back to base earlier.

It doesn't have to be a stunning display of tactics to be an importanat victory for the Royal Navy.

It just has to have an impact on the German Kriegsmarine.
