As far as I can gather, over in this country, student (uni student) discounts are only really effective if buying in bulk, ie for the classroom and if you can provide proof its being used for educational purposes.
Then again, that might not be entirely true since my dear mother used her lecturer's educational discount for our comp at home . . .
