The news that its going to be an original story makes me far less excited, especially because there was so many options for a good movie from the EU. The Thrawn trilogy seems like the obvious choice, but X-wing series is another one I've seen thrown around a lot. Hell, I'm not a big fan of Truce at Bakura as a book, but I think it could make a good movie. I don't really have a reason for disliking it, just was never a favourite, certainly didn't reread it a bunch. But you've got an invading alien species, some space battles, its got the main characters, right after Return of the Jedi so no worries about people missing parts of the story, seems like a good one.

I started out with annoyance thinking it would be the clone wars tv show all over again. Then I said, well they did the Avengers, that wasn't animated crap, maybe it'll be ok. I talked to comic book friends who felt Disney had handled the Avengers pretty well as far as handling a subject with far reaching pre-established canon can be done, so I felt cautiously optimistic.

An interesting aspect of Star Wars is that it is not well known outside of the Anglosphere- even just America, really. More movies could change that, making Star Wars an international brand.
It is interesting to compare Star Wars with something like Harry Potter, which is famous throughout Asia, etc.
