I guess that might have been witty if I actually had any idea what was going on back then. :)

If this is how the staff handles decisions then TRF is on a huge decline. I say in less than 2 years the last of the vets will get so absorbed into the new lives that they've discovered with the free time of not having to do math and roster calculations and productions that they'll stop visiting the site, then we'll see if there is any quality roleplaying left. This will devolve into a stupid words game.

Quoted for the Great Truth.

Mmm. "The Math Faction" is definitely what caused me to wash my hands of TRF for a number of years. And I still don't understand the excess of posturing and arguments caused by those silly numbers...

I was convinced that all of the fleeters with their incredible dedication to numbers and tactics related to numbers were going to become great military masterminds (or lawyers) in their adult lives. I don't see any great generals now, but I do see a lawyer....

It had nothing to do with Maths really.

You could've had umpteen ships, but if you didn't know how to use them, all it was , was a nice large list.

I personally enjoyed watching my assets build, it was like creating something out of nothing--(of course its all nothing at the end of the day)-- a bit like an Empire building game or Simcity.

Simply added another dimension to 'The game'

As for the arguments well, thats more down to the people behind it.

Bottom line is, people don't like to lose, even if its imaginary ships.

So like if your fleet went through an Abolisher field or something that would qualify as not knowing how to use them?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Om.

And I came in on the very tail end of the Math Faction, right as the rules changed (read: were abolished). Though I did have my share of arguments...mostly with Corise...

People don't like to lose, period. Some people accepted the loss and their losses, others would argue against it, and after a while, the standard fleeting thread consisted of the opening battle post followed by posts that began "Well what actually happened was..." and ended with adjusted casualties inflicted and taken, which was just terrible to read.

Also, I for one miss the 40 page OOC threads to accompany a 4 post long IC thread.
