Ky-Vin stared deeply into the black stone of the obelisk. His datapad dropping to the rocky sand.
Energies swirled there, and in the lake!, he let them wash over him, the powers that lay dormant for hundreds of years.

Ky-Vin saw images forming in the black surface of the obelisk. A scene from his past. Himself, looking 10 years younger, on board a ship. His heart leapt when he saw his first Master, his mentor, alive and well.
Then, the violence overtook it all. The volley of fire, the explosions, the laughing faces of the pirates and the scoundrels on their main viewscreen. They had been set up.
The noises on their ship's hull. The crash landing. The blood. The pain. His dead Master's body found among the ship's debris.

Ky-Vin could feel it all returning to him. How easily it returned! When their attackers make looking for them, and the cargo their ship carried, Ky-Vin was so happily surprised! He was no pilot, and their transport was no match for their ships. But on the ground, Ky-Vin had the upper hand.
The horror on their faces as Ky-Vin emerged from the ruined craft. The thrum of his lightsaber. The cries of shock and pain and fear. He was so sure they deserved death.
The pure destructive power that came so easily from anger, pain, hatred, revenge.
But it didn't last forever. There were far worse things that followed. Guilt and shame and self-digust. Ky-Vin felt he was going to explode.

Ky-Vin's eyes suddenly came back into focus. He heard Kenshin's voice and he was back on Ambria.
Kenshin looked concerned. Ky-Vin blinked a few times and turned from Kenshin and the obelisk quickly and walked a few meters away.
He remembered what he had seen, and felt. He said nothing.
Never again, he swore to himself, would he stray from his path.

When Ky-Vin didn't respond immediately, Kenshin began testing the energy radiating from him. Though it was surpressed, he found traces of anger and hate. Dark energies.

He wasn't surprized when Ky-Vin went off by himself for a little when he woke from the trance. Kenshin didn't follow, the Jedi needed some space to redeem himself, but he did keep a close watch for any changes in his Force signature.

Ky-Vin let Kenshin finish up recording the characters on the obelisk.
In the meantime, he tried to clear his mind. Ky-Vin opened himself up to the Force, and felt calm and at peace. He didn't close his eyes. Instead he let his gaze drift across the deserted terrain of Ambria to the mountains ahead.
He let the Force flow through him and purge himself of all emotions. He felt as if the Force were the ocean, and he drifted at its surface.

When Kenshin was done, Ky-Vin went back to him.
Apparently Ky-Vin's brush with the dark side years ago had left something inside him, and that had somehow triggered the energies here. He would not dwell on it.

Ky-Vin sent reassuring feelings to Kenshin. "Now for the hard part," he said with a smile.

Kenshin finished recording the symbols of the obelisk as Ky-Vin returned. He sensed that he had cleared himself of Dark feelings and calmed down. It was good to know he was okay.

Kenshin grinned as Ky-Vin spoke.

"Ah, the hard part. The Meditative Canyon, right?"

"If it exists at all." Ky-Vin replied.
He looked back toward the mountains.
The winds were beginning to pick up.

"Perhaps we should take the ship a little closer and see if we can save the trip across the desert?" he suggested.

"Okay then."

Kenshin took one last look at the obelisk and lake before heading back up the gentle slope to the plateau where the ship was parked.

Ky-Vin followed Kenshin back to the ship. When they both got on board, Kenshin moved to the cockpit and raised the exitramp.
Then Ky-Vin got in the cockpit as well.
He waited for Kenshin to take off.

The ship quietly rose and hovered over the ground for a moment before gently lurching foward.

"So we look for another big hole in the ground, eh?"

Kenshin grinned and searched the terrain below for any sight of a canyon.

Ky-Vin shook his head.
"The canyon will looks just like any other." He gestured to the cracks and gorges among the rocky slopes and peaks of the Tiernavel Mountains.
"There's no way to single it out from the air. Best find a good spot to land and then we head out on foot."

Ky-Vin thought for a moment, smiled, and then looked at Kenshin. "Just trust your feelings. We'll let the Force guide us."

The padawan nodded and brought the craft to a new landing spot. They landed on an elevated flat spot near one of the mountains where a canyon began.
