Console FPS targeting seems so unwieldy and awkward to me, I have long preferred FPS and RTS with wasd and a good mouse.

For the longest time, I agreed. However; Halo totally changed that misconception. Before Halo most console FPS's were either total Twitch games, or else they were hybrid-style FPS's mixing elements of crazy anarchy and sedate, tedious stealth.

Halo totally changed what a console FPS could be.

But it wasn't until CoD4 that I changed my mind, in fact it was one of the big motivators behind my abadoning PC gaming all together and migrating fully to console-only games.

Now, when I look at PC versions of current FPS games I feel like they totally downplay a players skill. Instead of manipulating two directional pads, thus X,Y and Z axis... PC shooters seem to me like crappy flash/shockwave games where the goal is just to mouse over an object and click. But that's just my opinion.

I say long live the console. PC games can up and die for all I care, take that production money and energy and direct it fully towards console game development and leave the computing to software of a more useful and less gamey purpose.

Paul: Playing the Goulag, where the "prisoner" is revealed... that was such a great moment. I was like, "Holy shit, it's you! I remember you teaching me how to snipe and sneak!"

Honestly, when it happened (the thing with Soap) I got soooo pissed off, all I wanted to do was be able to blast that fucker then and there.

And, did you play the "questionable content" mission? I read the warning and thought, 'No way can CoD be more offensive then the likes of GTA IV (tbogt and tlad) so of course I don't want to skip it.' While, when I got to it, I wasn't offened exactly, I sure was SHOCKED!

Hey, it's one thing to have preferences but no need to hate on the PC gamers!


I've never played a modern day FPS on a modern day console because there's no way I can afford a console, but your 'xyz means leet skillz' argument leaves me totally nonplussed. XYZ whatever... just like a console game, FPS on a PC has it's own unique challenges and benefits.


May PC gaming live on forever!



However, this debate leaves me no closer to experiencing the thrill of CoD, because all the local stores are still sold out...

I played a game with Beff the other day, and despite the lag issues (I was yellow bars or under all the way through), I thought I did pretty good. I tended to point my gun when I saw an enemy and hold the trigger until they fell or my clip ran out - this spray and pray mentality resulted in kills, as instead of relying on 'precision aiming', I simply filled the immediate area around the enemy with bullets.

Win.

And yeah, Beff, I know what you mean. I was sooo happy with both the prisoner rescue AND how you got back at that asshole at the end - I loved how he looked, shocked, and then BAM!

Complete awesome.

My buddy and I have been playing a lot of party games. Third Person Team Tactical, Team Deathmatch, CTF... we should arrange a threesome (lawl) some time soon.

And as to that level... you can actually make it all the way through without killing anyone. Try and figure out how.
