The same technology standard SW sensors use.

There's a fair amount of sensors that SW ships, but the primary and normal targetting one is the EPR (Electro-Photo Receptor), which are basically cameras that see in various wavelengths.

I'm guessing that you mean something like radar, which does exist in SW as the FST (Full-Spectrum Transceiver). It is the most prevalent sensor according to some sources along with the EPR. Here are some formal definitions, starting with the primary source:

FSTs are frequently call "universal sensors" because they use a
variety of scanners to detect all types of objects, energies and fields
- but they are not very sensitive. The size of the receptor determines
their effectiveness; receptor dishes must be quite large to detect
accurately or at long range. Most non-combat ships are equipped only
with FSTs.

Includes all EM and Subspace frequencies. Can search all frequencies in half an hour. Accuracy depends on size of radar dish. Therefore it is best used to supplement other arrays due to limits on the size of dish for most craft; seldom foiled completely, but ranges can fall short of the EPR optimum by 20-40%. Only completely foiled by a fully operational cloaking device.

FSTs aren't perfect by any means, both being somewhat insensitive, as well as having somewhat substandard range according to RPG materials. Thus, even if the ships weren't equipped with stealth armor or systems of any sort, the targetting data wouldn't be as good as normal as compared to that from an EPR or DER. The main problem I see with the idea is that Nutorium, according to CUSWE, is designed to defeat the more basic and common sensors, which would include FSTs, since all ships carry them. This would also fit in with the common idea that SW stealth armor in general, including Nutorium, is much like the RAM used on the F-117 Nighthawk.

I think we should also decide on how much damage EM guns do as well. I'm actually pretty indifferent in how much they do because of canon inconsistencies, but that damage applies to ships of both sides then.

Which says nothing for the fact that if you shoot something at it and it vanishes, you know something is there. Not what is there, per say, as you're in very simplistic terms looking at the item's shadow.

Come again? The first part is fairly true, if you were given the location of "it". But how would you know where "it" was from the start, unless "it" was a S9 firing its laser cannons? I don't get what you saying by the item's shadow.

Though I am loathe to agree with Kach (for obvious reasons) this situation is, without a doubt, getting fully out of hand.

In the past it has been a given that OOC threads debating IC conduct will, invariably, run longer then the story being debated itself. This, however; is utterly stupid.

Simply because a thing was one way once does not mean it shall and will forever remain unchanged. TRF has changed gears and many of you bean-counters refuse to keep up with the evolution... What bothers me is that this situation has no redeeming benefit to anyone aside from the three players involved; for each IC post I can count at least ten OOC posts.

Ahnk's logic for sticky'ing this thread is quickly wearing thin on me. You guys need to work on the story (which, oddly enough, looks fairly incomplete to me), not the OOC thread about the story .

Demos: I expect a hell of a lot more out of you, a veteran member of TRF and easily the most experienced member involved in this... whatever you want to call it. Continue to set an example worth following, or something...

Corise: I love you man, but seriously, I have to ask; wtf? You know exactly how I feel about this issue and about the on-going beancounting that you continue to endorse despite my advice.

Kach: I think I've counted one maybe two posts you have typed in this thread which have served a useful purpose. In my opinion you need to stop fanning the flames, as mentioned before, and continue to focus on the story as you have since.

To All Three: OOC is fun, and sure the members sometimes enjoy popping in to see what's the what. However; you are getting to the point now where this thread serves only one purpose.... and that is to scare away potential newbies. Yes, I have personally interacted with a potential member who, having witnessed this embarassing shit frenzy, ran away with his tail tucked. At some point you have to consider the community as a whole, not just your own little imaginary toys.

EDIT: If you want to continue to 'discuss' this thread, I'm going to suggest you take it to a more select location for the reason mentioned above. It's great if the OOC helps to move the story along, and you three have seemingly begun to cooporate a considerable amount more then you were, however; you chased off a possible newbie and that alone should give you cause to reconsider your motivations and so forth.

Take this to heart. As Cartman would say, "Guys, I'm seriously."

Because when both you and Kraken entered the thread, as planned within TNO, I knew that was coming, both from reading the IC thread and from here.

For the record, Park was not the reinforcments I mentioned. That was a spur of the moment thing, and we never discussed him entereing when I wrote that. There is still a squadron of ships and a bad ass command ship out there ready to be called in.

I'm totally with Beff, this is just beyond stupid. You guys are arguing imaginary numbers and figures for a pretend fights and trying to apply real science to a fictional universe and, really, it's just kind of sad. Instead of reading Wikipedia articles tonight about the effect of particulate irradiates on a transphasic energy field, leave your house, buy a drink, and get yourself laid. If you absolutely must be a nerd, go read a book. Or go watch Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth. If you want to argue science, pick something important, like the impending destruction of the fucking Earth, rather then trying to keep your fake ships alive.

Don't worry, TRF will still be here the next day. And you'll still be just as sad for wanting to keep posting in this topic.
