The 9800 Pro is the high-end card for the last generation. The X1600 is the midrange card for this generation. DDR2 memory is supposed to be faster, but since they're both on an AGP slot rather than a PCI-X, I don't know how much difference it would make. You could try searching around on tomshardware.com for comparison benchmarking and such.

If you can find a 9800 (Pro or XT models) for a hundred or less, then that would be an amazing deal. Pricewatch.com might hook you up.

Thatswhere I found the X1600

What I really need to know is... do some computers not support DDR2? How can I tell if mine does?

yey

DDR2

first of all go with the x1600pro with ddr2

the memory on a video card doesnt affect compatibility of video cards with a motherboard

as long as you have the correct slot and enough power any video card, no matter what kind of memory, will work

Blink If You Can Hear Me
There are several types of ram which can be purchased that depending on the age and the typ[e of motherboard can or cannot be used. Asking a random asshole on a forum is probably a bad idea. I'd seek professional help.
