If a person wanted to write again after say, oh, a 10 year break, and let's say their character is firmly planted on the Astoria, who could tell me what the current state of that place is? Irtar linked me to Omnae's helpful timeline but it really doesn't mention the Astoria or the trade route it's on...

You were mentioned in Cataclysm, actually. I believe a Cree'Ar almost assassinated you before having a change of heart. Ask Omnae about it; he's the one that wrote it (I think).
As for the general state of the Astoria right now, that's above my pay grade. If it were up to me, though, I'd say it's in whatever state that best facilitates your return to RPing.

Ahnk would know about the Astoria. As far as I know, it is stationary within Republic space (the Commonwealth turned into the Republic). However, in the past and probably now, there are some aboard that Ahnk is proposing who "pilot" the Astoria through time, space and the multiverse.
