In spite of your claim that you've read the Rules, FAQ and "all that good stuff" (and in spite of having posted your Hello thread in the wrong forum) I'm going to go ahead and give you the down-low (abridged for the newb).
Read the Rules and FAQ. When you have finished that, re-read them. Spend some time lurking and getting to know the place, get aclimated to our climate. Browse the Showcase threads and spend some time in study with the Planets List, Galaxy Map and Timeline.
When you've done all that, do it again.
