I just a minute ago clicked on Simon's user profile, and noticed he was replying to a thread (a battlegroudns thread, so his post will probably be somewhat lengthy).

I would like to read what he is writing... but I am about to go to bed, as I have class tomorrow morning. Which got me thinking:

Wouldn't it be neat if I could click on the thread he is replying to, and whatch what he was typing?

Orwellian? Yeah. Kind of freaky? A bit. Interesting? I think so.

Imagine watching some of TRF's best writers at work, seeing how they edit or rework parts of their stories... really get inside their heads. I think people could learn a lot by watching how truly good posts take place.

Ok. Sleep now. (Unless simon finished his post in the last 3 minutes...) :p

Most of TRF's best and most elite authors do not write within the confines of the Browser Supported text window. The majority of those of whom you speak tend to work within outside programs and the Copy & Paste their material into said window. There are notable exceptions, hence; the neat lil tab that identifies a member as replying to a post.

I do agree, however; that for those who do, it would be a neat obeservation.

If anyone were actually willing to play the role of guinea pig, Google Docs and Spreadsheets supports read-only collaboration through their online word processor application. You could do exactly what you're describing, with the advantage that Google auto-saves every minute.
